Apparently there are over 1000 specific rights benefiting those married. The letter below shows research done by the US General Accounting Office for the Chairman of the Committee of the Judiciary for the House of Representatives. The research was done to gather information relating to the Defense of Marriage Act. They found 1049 federal laws where marriage is a factor. This does not include state laws.
