Doctor or Sister?

Can any confirm or deny that there was (or is) a policy at BYU (or BYU-I) that women should not be referred to as "Dr." but rather "sister" or "miss" or "Mrs."?

The reason I ask is that someone related a story about a woman (doctor) that married a 70 after his 1st wife died. When she was interviewed by the Daily Universe (BYU's student newspaper) they asked her if she preferred "Mrs." or "Sister." She said that "Doctor" would be fine. But she was told that it was against their policy to refer to women as doctors. This was in the 80s.
